SETUP

The first dealer is random and passes to the right for each new round. The dealer shuffles the cards and deals out the whole deck counterclockwise so that each player has a hand of 13 cards.

After receiving their hand’s players will sort and separate their hands into 4 combinations. The first three will be 3 cards each and you want to sort to have the best card combinations (described below) possible. The last combination will be 4 cards though only 3 cards will be used to determine your combination rank. The 4-card combination must be your lowest ranked.

After a player finishes making their hand combinations they say “up”. Once all players call up, hands can no longer be altered, and the game begins.

Card Rank, Values, and Combinations

The cards are ranked Ace (high), King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, and 2 (low).

Cards also have values associated with them. Aces, Kings, Queens, Jacks, and 10s are all worth 10 points each. All other cards have a value of 5 points each. There is a total of 360 points available per round.

For the combinations, there are 6 types. In highest to lowest ranking order they are troy, color run, run, color, pair, and indi.

Troys are combinations of 3 cards of the same rank. Higher ranked cards make for higher-ranked troys.

Color runs are 3 cards in consecutive order of the same suit. A, K, Q is the highest followed by A,2,3. 4,3,2 is the lowest-ranked color run.

Runs are combinations of cards in consecutive order. They do not need to be of the same suit. The rank the same as color runs.

Colors are combinations of cards in the same suit that are not all consecutive. To rank them, compare the highest card of the combinations.

Pairs are a pair of cards with an additional card of a different rank. They are ranked based on pair first in ranking order of cards.

Indis are combinations that do not fall under any of the above categories. They are ranked by their highest card first.
