AUCTION FLOP POKER

INTRODUCTION TO AUCTION FLOP POKER

Auction Flop Poker is a variation on draw style poker. The game was inspired by Jean Roche’s article Poker aux enchères posted in a French online newsgroup and created by Charles Magri. THE PRE-GAME

At the start of play, each player has the same number of chips. The first dealer is chosen at random.

Each hand starts with a fixed ante, for example, 2 chips. The dealer deals each player 5 cards face-down as usual. The cards the remain for a stockpile.

THE FIRST PHASE

At the start, players examine their hands. If they wish, they may discard some or all of their cards into a discard pile at the center of the table. To discard, players must pay the pot using the following scheme:

  • 0 cards discarded – no payment
  • 1 card discarded – 1 chip
  • 2 cards discarded – 3 chips
  • 3 cards discarded – 6 chips
  • 4 cards discarded – 10 chips
  • 5 cards discarded – 15 chips

Unlike typical Draw Poker games, in which the dealer deals fresh cards to players, players fill their own hands by buying cards from the face-up cards dealt to the table (which occurs in phase two). keonha cai

THE SECOND PHASE

The first three cards on top of the stockpile are flipped over. These are flop cards, similar to in Texas Hold’Em, but they are not shared cards or community cards. Instead, they are bought by the player who places the highest bid for them.

The player sitting to the left of the dealer is the First Voice, they either pass or bid 1 for the flop. Passing to the left, each player either passes or bids 1 chip more than the previous bid. If a player passes they may bid again when the turn returns to them (within the same round). If a player has 5 cards in hand, they must always pass.

Bidding continues until the flop is sold, it is sold to the player who places the highest bid while all other players pass. They pay the price to the pot, take the flop, and must keep at least 1 card from it. Any cards they do not want are placed in the discard pile. This process continues until all players have 5 cards in hand.

However, if all players but the First voice pass, the FIrst voice must take the flop for no cost (and at least keep 1 card from it) or pay 1 chip to not take the flop. If they pay 1 chip to not take the flop, the next player that has less than 5 cards in hand can choose to take the flop for free or pay 2 chips to not take. This continues on until a player takes the flop, each time the cost to not take it increases by 1 chip.

If the stockpile is exhausted before players have a 5-card hand the discard is shuffled and used.

THE SHOWDOWN

After players form their hands, players reveal them and the pot is divided as follows:

  • 60% of the pot is awarded to the player with the highest ranking hand.
  • 30% of the pot is awarded to the player with the second-highest ranking hand.
  • 10% of the pot is awarded to the player with the third-highest ranking hand.

The deal passes to the left and another round is played.
